The students will be in charge of their own Valentine Boxes. The boxes may be decorated to whatever the child's heart wishes. Any size, shape, width, or length. As long as you and they can haul it out on Friday. :)
This Friday is the Valentines Day Party. I sent a class list out with all students yesterday. There seemed to be some confusion because the class list always shows students birthdays at the top. Do not fear the list shows everyone. :)

Attention Parents:
The school has requested that all teachers review the uniform policy with their classes. I have done so and have made a permanent page on the website listing the School Uniform Rules. ANY and ALL questions about this, please refer to the School Office and Administration. The school is asking that I do Uniform checks, which I will start to do tomorrow, since we reviewed what is appropriate (at length) today. I understand the squeeze we all are feeling financially. Please talk to office and administration if you are unable to make immediate changes. Valley Academy Uniform Dress Code (Revised and Approved by the Board on 5/15/2014) Purpose: Valley Academy has chosen to adopt a uniform dress code in order to create a positive atmosphere where students can feel safe and comfortable. Uniforms minimize visual socioeconomic differences between students and create an environment where clothing and fashion are not a distraction to the daily educational process. Policy: Students are required to wear the Valley Academy uniform daily while on school property during normal school hours, during after-school tutoring activities and on all field trips, unless otherwise specified. Dress code violations will be addressed with parents. Procedure: Uniforms will be plain, simple, and conservative. All clothing worn during school hours must be solid colors; no prints, patterns, or logos are allowed, except for the school logo clothing. Embellishments on the clothing, such as large buttons, buckles, zippers, ruffles, lace, or emblems are not allowed. Clothing should fit properly, not baggy, saggy, or skin-tight. Clothes should be clean and in good repair, not washed out or worn out. Holes and patches are not allowed. Tops: Acceptable tops are polo shirts in any solid color and polo dresses in either short or long sleeves, No logos are allowed on tops except for the school-embroidered logo. Layering of shirts under the polo is allowed, in short or long sleeves. Undershirts may only be white in color and must not have any logo showing. Long-sleeved sweaters, cardigans, and jackets with a zipper are acceptable in any solid color with school-approved polo underneath. No logos, except the school- embroidered logo, are allowed on sweaters, cardigans, or jackets worn inside the building. Sweatshirt hoodies and pull over sweatshirts may not be worn during the school day. Coats, jackets, sweatshirts, gloves, and hats may be worn for outdoor activities. For all tops worn during the school day, no florescent or neon colors will be allowed. Bottoms: All pants, shorts, skorts, skirts, and jumpers must be solid khaki (tan) or navy in color. These are the only two acceptable colors for uniform bottoms. All bottoms must fit properly. The following are not allowed as a part of the normal daily uniform: athletic wear, jeans/denim, sweatpants, or stretch pants. Shorts, skirts, skorts, jumpers, and dresses must be within 1-3 inches above the knee in length. Children will be active throughout the day, therefore, if skirts, jumpers, and dresses do not have built-in shorts, a pair of shorts must be worn underneath. White and Navy leggings and tights are allowed under skirts, skorts, and dresses, but cannot be worn alone as a uniform pant. Shoes and socks: Shoes must have a closed toe and back, be no taller than 2 inches above the ankle, and have a heel no higher than 1 inch. Acceptable colors for shoes are: blue, black, white, brown, and grey (or any configuration of those colors on the same shoe). Flashing lights, glitter, and wheels are not allowed on shoes worn during the school day. Flip-flops and sandals are not permitted. Socks will be one solid color and may not extend any higher than 2 inches above the ankle. No florescent or neon colored socks will be allowed. P.E., Dance, Movement and Performing Arts Attire: During P.E. activities, t-shirts must be solid color with or without the Valley Academy logo. Shorts must be solid color with or without the Valley Academy logo. No prints, patterns or other logos are allowed. Sneakers must have non-marking soles and must be in good repair. During performing art activities, uniforms will be according to the instructors’ specifications. Footwear appropriate to the activity will be specified by the instructors. Hair: Hair shall be neatly combed or brushed. Bizarre or extreme hairstyles are not permitted. Hair must be kept trimmed so that the student’s eyes are always clearly visible. Hats and bandanas may not be worn during the school day. Jewelry: Students have the responsibility to avoid apparel or accessories that are such that they create a safety issue, interrupt school decorum, student concentration, or adversely affect the educational process. Grooming and Hygiene: Students shall maintain a clean and neat appearance, and exercise good grooming and personal hygiene habits. Free Dress Days: “Free Dress” days will be designated by school administration. Free Dress Day policy shall also include the following provisions:
Dear Parents,
I will be sending this home in letter form as well. We will not be having homework or spelling this week. Any and all extra time will be dedicated to a writing gift your children are preparing for you. Please realize that each of your young ones are at a different level in writing. While I could go through and grade each one and make it perfect, I felt that would take away from the authenticity. I want these to be their work. I critique enough of their writing. In this instance I felt that the pressure should be off, and the children be given the freedom to just write from the heart. If the spelling is atrocious, be glad that they are trying to expand vocabulary and not just use easy words. If the hand writing is muddled, please realize each story went through several drafts and their poor little hands are tired. Just take the "parent hats" off for a moment and soak up the realization that a child spent hours to create something unique for just you. If we all do that, I am sure we can all be very proud. Aaron Spencer The Chapter Math Test is underway, and most of the class will have them finished today . I am however giving those who need the extra time tomorrow to finish the test.
Also I am still waiting on the music teacher to give me two students grades. Until then I can't print out the report cards. I have been promised I will have it by tomorrow. Mr. Spencer Good Morning All, :)
As your children may have already told you, today I will be having a sub. The students don't know that it is because I have a Mediation meeting with people in Wyoming. (Ongoing attempt at gaining custody of my 10 year old son.) However, that is neither here nor there. I am missing two grades from our music teacher, so I will pass out report cards to your children on Tuesday. Included with that will be explanation on some of the grades. *Please* if you have any questions or concerns come to the classroom and meet with me. If you give me a days notice, I can usually make arrangements. Homework packet sent out today will only have this week's: Spelling Words, Math sheet, and reading log. Also included is a Chapter 2 Test Review. Please go over this with your kiddos. We have a Math Test on Tuesday. Spelling City List 8 is up also. I hope everyone's day goes fantastic. Tell your children I love them, miss them, and look forward to teaching them on Tuesday. -Mr. Aaron Spencer Our Elective schedule has been tweaked slightly. We have split the class in two for Art. This allows more 1 on 1 instruction for the Art teacher, while also giving me an opportunity to review instruction with those who remain in the classroom. Here is your children's Elective Weekly Schedule, as well as a class breakdown for Art. -Mr. Spencer Yes, there is no homework packet this week. We have Several Tests this week, and I don't want the kiddos burnt out. So we will continue Spelling Next Week. Enjoy the break. :)
We are starting to prepare for the Chapter 1 Math test, and there is much distress in the land. The test will be on Tuesday.
Over the next few days we will work on a Practice test (which will have similar questions but not exact as the real test). I am sending a copy home tonight for each student. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that each of you spend time with your child and go over these concepts. Unless it specifically says with the rounding/estimating, round to the nearest 10. Many problems are story problems, and are multi steps. We are doing the practice in class today, and then reviewing every problem tomorrow to help them understand the concepts. Again the test will be different, but the concepts the same. Each child's success on this difficult test fall on both my and your shoulders.
Dear Parents,
I have sent some different book order sheets home with your kiddos. Also is included a letter explaining how to order online. You may also click on the link with a pic of a school bus below to take you where you need to go. At the beginning of the year, scholastic does a great deal where my classroom can earn books. Below is the chart. I do prefer online orders, because they offer more books and less mess. However if you need to write a check or send cash, I can order for you. Class Code is: PBQGP Mr. Spencer |
