Sign Up Genius for the Parent Teacher Conference on Monday & Tuesday is up. Check your emails. :)
Mr. Spencer Tonight I will be creating the Sign-Up Genius for Mon. & Tues. parent Teacher Conference. Be looking for an email tonight. :)
Mr. Spencer Check your child's backpacks, and you will find the Wednesday Practice Spelling Test results.
If your Child missed 0 or 1, then they will not have to retake the test on Friday. 2or more will have to. I will take the highest score of the two for the final grade. Also any words missed on Friday can be written 10x at home for 1/2 credit (per word missed). There is a belief by some in the education field that the more homework a child has, the better learner they will become. I however am not, nor ever will be one of them. I believe that quality trumps quantity. Does that mean Mr. Spencer is "Anti-Homework"? No. There will be work that is assigned every week, but I try to keep it minimal. A "Homework Packet" is sent home every Monday. It is due on Friday. However, I will not count it late if it is turned in to me by Monday morning. The reasoning behind the homework being due on Friday is that I don't want my students to have to work on schoolwork during their weekends. They are kids, they need sunshine and time to spend playing with family and friends! So please try to help them complete the assignments during the week. (If they finish it on the 1st night, by all means, have them turn it in the next day.) I do want to be flexible however to both parents and students. I realize there will be chaotic weeks, or times where homework is finished but not turned in on Friday. This is why I allow full credit if turned in by Monday morning. Work that is turned in after Monday will still be accepted. However, the highest that score can reach is 80% of the original point total. This week our class will begin our 1st Spelling List. Every Wednesday & Friday, we will take the Test using I-pads. We will use the Spelling City Website. At home your child may access this website and use the Practice test as many times as wished. (See the paper I sent home on how to Log-in.) Also this website has a link under "More" found at the top right-hand corner. Then click on the "Technology" Link. How I run my Spelling Tests: Every Wednesday is the Practice Test. (If your Child misses 0 or 1, they will not have to retake the test on Friday.) A printout of how your child did will be sent home for review. Friday, those who missed 2 or more words on Wednesday will retake the test. A printout of how your child did will be sent home for review. If the grade is not up to your expectation, your child may Re-write any words missed 10x each to receive 1/2 point per word missed. Below is Spelling List #1. :) Spelling List #1 (Short Vowel)

As you can see I made the look a little more Cheerful to the eye. If you turn to the home page, I have also added two videos.
The 1st, is a short clip showing one of the world's 12 remaining Master Penman writing some beautiful cursive. The 2nd video is just plain fun. It is for your viewing pleasure, as well as to put a little perspective into our lives. Last but not least I have added videos and information concerning Class Dojo (which you will find under the technology links), and Step Up to Writing. It has its own dedicated page found at the top right corner of the webpage under "more". I see you have found my Classroom Webpage's Blog. :) Huzzah! & Well Done!
As you can see from the link above, this blog and my Classroom Facebook page work together to give you as parents updates to all that transpires in your child's school life. Whether it is updates, fascinating links to science or learning videos, or pictures of learning in my class- this will have it all! I want to say Thank you to each of you for entrusting me with your precious little ones. It is a responsibility that I do not take lightly. Many of you know me, and have had previous children in my classroom. However there will be some new faces. I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of you. This is going to be a fantastic year. I can feel it! I look forward to seeing all of you at Back to School Night! Until then, have a Wonderful Day!!! -Mr. Spencer |
