One of my student's parents made a fantastic suggestion! Why not find a way that students can enter their reading minutes online. This way students or parents can log reading minutes in real-time; without the risk of losing papers.
I value all of your opinions, and felt it was important to try to find a more efficient and interactive way of tracking your children's minutes.
What makes this reading log so exciting is that students can:
- List the actual book they are reading. (List the title and the website will search through Amazon. This way fellow students can see what the books look like.)
- Track their minutes. (As they as a student reads for a certain number of minutes, an animal icon changes to show what "Level of Reader" they are.) For instance: a crab = reading 0 min. - 2 hrs., a fish = reading 2 hrs. 1 min. - 4 hrs. 15 min.
- Mr. Spencer's reading is tracked as well. After all leading by example is the best recipe for success.
- Students can comment on their reading and write reviews on books for their peers.
If a student is unable to log their reading for a particular night, they can log on at school using a class I-pad.
I will be sending a "Letter to the Parents" from this website tomorrow. It will contain passcode information. (It matches the students' spelling city usernames and pass codes. *Everyone except Zoe, her username was already taken so I had to slightly modify :(
While I realize the clip below shows what I can do as an administrator of this class's reading group, I posted it so that you can have a visual of all the neat things possible through this website.
